What is Dowry System?

Negative impacts: It often creates a heavy financial burden on the bride’s family, reinforces gender inequality, and in severe cases leads to domestic violence, early marriages, dowry-related deaths, and an increase in gender-based violence within families.

Legal status: In several countries, including Nepal and India, the dowry system is illegal, but it still persists in many communities due to deep-rooted cultural beliefs and harmful social norms and practices.
